Toughened Glass
Toughened glass, also known as tempered glass, undergoes a specialised thermal treatment to significantly increase its strength compared to standard annealed glass. This process involves heating the glass to high temperatures and then rapidly cooling it, which creates internal stress that reinforces its structure. As a result, toughened glass is much more resistant to impact and thermal stress.
In the event of breakage, toughened glass is designed to shatter into small, granular pieces rather than dangerous, jagged shards. This reduces the risk of serious injury, making it ideal for use in areas prone to human contact, such as doors, windows, shower screens, and balustrades.
Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is another popular safety option. It consists of two or more layers of glass bonded together with an interlayer, typically made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB). This interlayer holds the glass together in the event of breakage, ensuring that the shards remain in place and the pane stays largely intact. This makes laminated glass an excellent choice for environments where security is a priority, such as schools, hospitals, and public spaces.
Additionally, laminated glass provides acoustic insulation and offers UV protection, making it both a practical and versatile choice for various applications.
Reinforced Glass
Reinforced glass, as the name suggests, is built for extra durability. It combines the strength of toughened glass with additional layers or coatings to further improve its resistance to impact, weather, and wear. This type of glass is often used in commercial and industrial settings, where the need for robust, long-lasting materials is paramount.
Safety Wired Fire Glass
For environments where fire safety is critical, our safety-wired fire glass offers the perfect solution. This glass contains a wire mesh embedded within, which helps maintain the integrity of the glass in case of fire. Even when exposed to high temperatures, the wire mesh keeps the glass intact, providing essential protection against flames and smoke. Safety-wired fire glass is often used in stairwells, doors, and windows in public buildings, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations while offering an additional layer of protection.
